Leica Food Photograph of the Year

This award seeks to recognise a food photograph that explicitly showcase the style and characteristic of the featured dish in an open category featuring raw, processed or cooked food.

Criteria | Evaluation Process | Application Form

  • Application Criteria:

    • This contest is open to all photographers (professional and amateurs) in Singapore.
    • All participants of the award must sign a consent form to allow Leica and Peter Knipp Holdings to do multiple publications of their work. Their submitted photographs will belong to Peter Knipp Holdings and is non-returnable.
    • Copyright of all photographs submitted for the competition will remain with the photographer. However, the organiser will reserve the permanent non-exclusive right to publish, reproduce, display, distribute and show on screen any photograph on websites, photography exhibitions, tradeshows or any other media without obtaining further permission from the entrants.
    • Photographs must be submitted in Super 8R (8” X 12”) printed format. Top winning entries should be accompanied with a CD of the image, with a minimum resolution of 1600 by 2000 pixels and format should be in JPEG. Winners will be notified for the CD submission.
    • All photographs submitted must not be an award winning photograph in any other similar competitions.
    • One person is allowed two entries of each photograph taken from different angles.
    • Each photo submission should be accompanied by a title and a brief description.
    • Details of the photographs must be provided:
      • When and where the photographs were taken
      • Camera model
      • Technical settings of the photographs
    • Minor digital manipulation that is acceptable:
      • Minor burning
      • Minor dodging
      • Color correction
      • Hand tinting
    • All photographers must obtain clearance for the photographs to be submitted for this award. Permission should be obtained from publishers of the magazines/newspapers that the photographs were published in and clearance should be obtained from the creator of the featured dish in the photographs.
    • The rules and regulations are correct as of the time of print. The organisers reserve the right to amend the rules at anytime, both before and after the contest, according to their discretion without any prior notification.
    • The organisers reserve the right to refuse or disqualify any participant who does not abide by these rules and regulations.

Evaluation Process

The selection of the award recipient for the Leica Food Photograph Of The Year Award will involve one round of nomination. A panel of ten industry professionals will be selected to judge the submitted entries for the award. The jurors may vote for any article that meets the criteria and the finalists will be announced at the WGS Awards of Excellence Press Conference on 11 March 2010. The award recipient will be announced at the WGS Awards of Excellence Ceremony on 10 April 2010.
